Dawn's Lawn

My grass is looking nice and thick. But I'm not sure what type it is. I'm still thinking of going with the reel mower.

I think I have a holly tree, but the leaves are smooth. Is it a different type?

I have a beautiful climbing rose.
It's been beat up do to the weather though.
Does anybody know its name?

This little shrub has cute little pink flowers on it. But it's getting crowded out. Anybody know its name?

Anybody know what type of pine this is?

  1. I believe the pink-flowered shrub is a Loropetalum. Pretty much impossible to kill and stays a nice medium size.
I don't severely prune my Crape Myrtles - I don't like the stumpy look. Just trim off the berries and trim for shape and rubbing branches until you can't reach the branches anymore. And the lichen is apparently "an indication that the tree is under stress. Perhaps the soil stays too wet or maybe another problem with the roots???? Dig carefully around the root zone and see if you notice anything out of the ordinary. A soil test from your local extension office would be a good idea". Although I see plenty of it in Alabama and the trees always seem to do fine. Can't help you with the other stuff, but the yard looks very nice!

  3. Norfolk Island Pine trees. Roses may be Don Juan, just prune them back in the winter. Grass does look like St. Augustine
